Round 2 Match Reports

Round 2 of the competition saw Neddies head to Pat O’Hara to play a spirited Perth-Bayswater team featuring several plays from last season’s premiership-winning Baysie Colts team.
However, it was a young Neddies player, Anzelo Tuitavuki, who stole the show, with the teenage fullback crossing for a hat-trick in the 43-16 victory.
Anzelo and centre James Verity-Amm bagged two each in the first half as Neddies jumped to a commanding 31-11 lead. James’s two touch downs added to his scintillating pair against Wests in week one, prompting some early comparisons with winger Brody Lam’s scoring prowess last season.
The 2017 season has seen also seen another addition to the Father-and-Son premier grade club, with young halfback Callum Thomas following in the size 17 footsteps of his father, former State skipper Trefor, who is still going hard in third grade. Callum followed the inured Drake Robson into that exclusive club. Drake’s father Stu “Animal” Robson was one of the legends of the Neddies club back in the 1980s and thereabouts.
And while his father Magnum passed up the chance of premier grade honours to play out his career for the legendary Neddies Nomads, Tui Williams is thought to have become the sole member of the Mother-and-Son club at Neddies. Tui’s mum Sue was one of the pioneering members of the Neddies women’s team who reigned supreme way back in the day, producing Australian representatives like Cheryl “I’ll be coming home” Soon and Tui Ormsby. You just gotta love the Neddies trivia…
Anyway, the premier grade win capped off a mixed afternoon for Neddies, with wins in reserves and third grade and losses by the fourths and the women’s team.
Meanwhile, over at Auckland’s Eden Park, Anaru “the wrecking ball” Rangi was making his first appearance for the Force this season – as the Neddies hooker also became the crowd poster boy for the Save The Force campaign.
Round 3 looms as a cracker down at The Foreshore as The Third Half supporters’ club host their first lunch of the season as Neddies take on the visitors from Swanbourne, Soaks.
Be there. Be loud. Be proud. GO NEDDIES!!!
