Neddies have continued their great start to the 2013 season after being crowned champions at the Margaret River sevens on Saturday.
The win comes a couple of weeks after Neddies took out the Cockburn sevens competition.
As was the case in Cockburn, the Tony Ball-coached Neddies were unbeaten in the Margaret River event, defeating Wests 47-7 in the final after winning their previous five games. Now in its second year, the Margaret River sevens attracted a big turn-out of teams.
While there were stars across the park for Neddies, captain Jake Stevens deserved special mention for his inspirational performances throughout the tournament, leaving many an opposition player clutching thin air as he ghosted through gaps.
The Neddies boys were backed by a vocal group of supporters who made the trip down south, including Rex, Yoda, Macca, Brat, Bruce Gardner and Kevin Ball. The cooking skills of the Hulkster and Geoff Julian, along with the after-match kava concocting skills of Ben “No Stop for Smoko” Titoko, were also much appreciated by the boys.
The win augurs well for the 2013 season for Neddies. The 15-aside action is due to start with a scratch match on Saturday (more details to follow).
