Neddies Clubrooms  – Building Committee Update    April 2014
Hi All
Although it is nearly two years since we opened our new clubrooms we are still working towards its completion with finishing touches being completed from funds raised at last year’s luncheons.
Last week we had commercial grade Café Blinds installed under the veranda and we are very happy with the finished product. This allows us to weatherproof the clubrooms on stormy winter days or to windproof the clubrooms when holding a function in summer against the sea breeze that roars down the river from November to February.
Installed today over our BBQ was a water and shade proof sail to keep the Thursday night BBQs dry and stop Rex Julian from getting sunburnt while cooking the snags at preseason training. This sail is in keeping with the nautical look of our clubhouse as designed by Steve Bradbury.
If you look up over our front door (road side not rugby side) you will note new spot lit signage saying “The River Room”. We will be using this name for our clubrooms when we begin marketing our venue in the off season as a wedding and function location. Hopefully this name will be more appealing to future brides than a rugby club.
Also to assist us in “softening” the room from it rugby flavour when used for ladies day, weddings or functions we have installed electric drop down blinds that come down over rugby memorabilia and advertising. This was suggested and has been paid for by funds raised by our ladies in recent years – thanks ladies.
A recent working bee had some minor repairs and touching up of paintwork etc around the building done prior to the season so thanks to those 20 or so members who turned up to help.
Our next big ticket item of expenditure after a few more years fund raising will be reverse cycle air conditioning so support this year’s Test Match lunch on Friday Sept 5th at the Perth Convention Centre. See Pete Cowley for tickets available soon.
Don’t forget our Australian Sporting Foundation Grant is still running for another 3 years allowing you or your company to make a fully tax deductable donation to our building project to get this air conditioning in. Email me for details:   garryash@bigpond.com.
Cheers
Your Building Committee
