Congratulations Neddies Award Winners

JandreNedlands were crowned 2014 Premiership Club Champions after qualifying for the Pindan Premier Grade finals for the 32nd consecutive year. While the minor premiers were knocked out by Cottesloe in the last weekend’s preliminary final, the club will be represented in this weekend’s grand finals by their Goodlife Health Clubs Under 19 and Championship A sides.
First-year head coach Gus Martyn was recognised as the Coach of the Year after guiding Nedlands to the Pindan Premier Grade minor premiership on the back of 13 wins and a draw during the regular season. Nedlands missed the opportunity to defend their 2013 title after falling by one-point to Cottesloe in their preliminary final. Martyn also led the WA Under 17’s team at the 2014 Junior Gold Cup where they took out the national championship in its inaugural year.
UWA fullback Christian Joubert and Nedlands scrumhalf Michael Ruru shared the honour of the Pindan Premier Grade’s Top Try Scorer, after each crossing 15 times during the season. Ruru’s climb up the try-scorer’s list was aided by five tries in Neddies’ 92-12 win over Wanneroo.
Nedlands back-rower Andries van der Westhuizen was recognised for his strong season in claiming the Most Improved Player Award. After graduating from Colts in 2012 and Reserve Grade in 2013, van der Westhuizen has been amongst Nedlands’ most consistent performers, playing nearly every minute of the season and scoring three tries.
