Round 7 of the competition saw Neddies complete a clean-sweep of Wanneroo at Kingsway.
While the premier grade team was without a string of regulars, there were a few familiar faces including Ryan “the Bus” McLeod and Mason Pomare playing a hand in reserve grade’s impressive 55-10 win, which included a hat trick to prop Jamie Hawgood.
The premier game started off on the right note when Mike “Roo” Ruru crossed under the sticks for a 7-0 lead.
But the Ben Tapuai-inspired Roo Dogs hit back with a try to level the scores at 7-7. By half time Roo had crossed for his second to give his team a 14-7 lead.
It was hardly vintage rugby from the competition leaders. And it didn’t get a whole lot better in the second half as the Roo Dogs refused to lie down and handling errors and penalties continued to thwart Neddies attacking sorties.
By the final whistle, Neddies had rattled off four more tries to Joe “Peanut” Richie, Drake Robson (showing off for mum), Lawrence Joel and a statutory length of the field runaway to fellow wing Brody Lam, his 11th of the season.
That added up to a bonus-point 42-7 win after fullback Kauri Cudd continued his sharp form with the boot, slotting all six conversions.
Coaches Dogga and Tommy Fearn will no doubt be hoping for a better performance on Saturday in what has always been a danger game for Neddies – away to Uni @ McGillivray.
Be there. Be loud. Be proud. GO NEDDIES!!
