Round 15 Report

Round 15 Report

While all the talk on Saturday was about Twiggy Forrest and retiring Force warrior Matt Hodgson, there was also a bit of club rugby played earlier in the day. This included a top-four clash between leaders Paly and third-placed Neddies down at The Foreshore.
The premier grade team took to the field after mixed results down the grades, with thirds and fourths prevailing, but reserves, colts and women’s going down.
Despite playing into the wind, Neddies started positively when the elusive Kauri Cudd marked his return to the team by setting up former Irish under-20 forward Lorcan Dow for the first try of the game.
However, the rest of the half belonged to Paly, as the visitors profited from a string of penalties to take a 16-5 halftime lead. Neddies’ cause was not helped by an injury to forward Aiden Laxton, who had been one of the stand out performers in recent weeks. He was soon followed into the casualty ward by blockbusting hooker Logan Ede.
A yellow card didn’t help matters early in the second half for Neddies – and Paly capitalised with a second try to jump to a commanding 23-5 lead. With the penalty count continuing to mount, things were looking grim.
But a converted try to big winger Zac Makavilitogia gave Neddies some hope at 23-12. But despite threatening, Neddies couldn’t add to that tally as the crowd quickly dispersed for nib Stadium to watch the Force.
The loss left Neddies in third position, but only one point clear of the fast-finishing Kalamunda and five points ahead of Soaks.
All of which makes Saturday’s Round 16 game against Uni a must-win match for Neddies.
Be there. Be loud. Be proud. GO NEDDIES!!
