Dear Nedlands Faithful,
The excitement is building, the tension is palatable, everyone is licking their lips, taste buds are salivating and with the new restrictions we will have steak night!!
Hang the rugby they say everyone wants to come down and burn a steak and chat to their mates.
With the Police Commissioner and Premier easing the States Restrictions to Level 4 from Saturday morning what does it mean for the club
How do the Level 4 Restrictions affect the club?
The Level 4 restrictions affect us as follows
- No seated to be Served restrictions in the clubrooms
- Dont have to sign in nor do we need to know who you are for tracing requirements
- Do have to maintain the 2 sqm rule while inside the clubrooms and on the balcony.
- No need for table service for food – so Steak Nights are ON! from next thursday night just in time for the season to kick off.
- Can stand and drink both inside the clubrooms and out on the verandah and in our sideline licensed area.
- There may not be a Test Match Luncheon, we are considering a down scaled version but nothing like last years cracker.
How has the Club been affected
The most significant impact on the club has been a greatly reduced income stream from the bar and canteen every week. The uncertainty over whether we had a competition or not meant we didnt get to collect subs or pursue new sponsors. With most of our new kit and training equipment ordered back in December and January our expenses havent really changed but our income is way down and will be for quite awhile.
Unfortunately I will have to become “Mr No” for the rest of the season, we simply dont have the funds to cover our expenses as we have done in the past, so brace for the change of the BOM declining anything and everything that involves spending money. We have to become a leaner but more robust club going into the future.
The Board is investigating using the Australian Sporting Fund to garner financial support through grants and tax-deductible donations that the club can access. We are also seeking out COVID-19 Grants where available from the State Government and Nedlands Council to make up for the shortfall in income we have identified.
How Can You Help The Club
Simply put the Best way to help the club is to pay up your subs, either as a player or as a Third Half Member, then dont expect anything for free, as the Great Robert F Kennedy said in a speech to the US and it applies to everyone who is a Nedlands Member
“Think not what my Club can do for me, but what can I do for my Club”
(paraphrased a bit from his original speech but applicable in this case)
We need more Club Members to volunteer to help out around the club, setting up the fields, working the bar, helping out on steak nights, helping out in the kitchen, helping anywhere and everywhere you can to limit the spend at the club.
We all need to work together in the same direction to get the club through these unprecedented times we are living in and going to make it through. If we all put in either physically or financially we can make the club incredibly strong for our future Neddies players, supporters and Administrators
