Mike Panoho Joins Neddies to head up new Coaching team

We are delighted to announce that Mike Panoho will join Neddies as the new Premier Grade Head Coach and Director of Rugby. He will be assisted by Brett McCormack and S&C Coach Jye Welch and the team at Jump Lift Run, who have come joined as our Strength and Conditioning partners.

Bringing an extensive wealth of experience, Mike joins Nedlands with a proven track record. He holds the highest Coaching Award in English Rugby and has furthered his expertise with a Masters in Professional Coaching.

Throughout his coaching journey, Mike has made significant contributions to Gloucestershire Counties, England Counties, Richmond RFC, RFC Haarlem, Delta Super Cup, and recently served as the Netherlands National team forwards coach.

Mike’s coaching philosophy revolves around inspiring dedication, commitment, fitness, creativity, and fostering a strong team culture. Notably, Mike’s roots in the game extend to his early playing days with Nedlands, where he started as a young kid, playing for The Mighty Nomads at 5th Grade and Colts. Now, with excitement, Mike returns to the club as the Head Coach.

Brett McCormack has also come on board to assist Mike with the Premier Grade Coaching. Brett brings significant experience, having played Professional Rugby, representing New Zealand at u17 and u21 levels, Otago and Southland in the NPC and the Highlanders and Chiefs in Super 12.

As a coach Brett, has experience coaching 1st Division in the UK and a multitude of Otago age representative teams and most recently coaching the Neddies u15’s 7’s team in 2023.

Brett has said, “I am very excited to be part of the Coaching Set at Neddies and to work with Mike Panoho, a very respected Coach will bring great learnings and new ways to the rugby club.”

We are also extremely lucky to have Andy Cole joining us as Head Coach of the Colts and David McKnight as Reserve Grade Coach. Both bringing decades of coaching experience within WA Premier Grade and Perth Gold. Andy will be assisted by Dean Woodham and former Nedlands Premier Grade Captain and 100 gamer, Dylan Loversidge will assist with Reserves.

Nedlands Stalwarts, Rod Ball, Danny Iti and Terry “Max” Smith have formed a super coaching team to lead the 3rd Grade and Luke Powell and Duane Wee will resume as spiritual leaders of the Nomads. We are working hard in the background to confirm our Women’s team coach and will make the announcement once confirmed.

We are all very excited for the season ahead.

News From The Shed: Update from the President

Happy New year to all the Neddies Family, Friends and Supporters.  Welcome to 2023 and I hope everyone has had a wonderful start to the year.

It will be no surprise to you all that planning for the 2023 season is already well underway.  With the first round kicking off against Cottesloe at Harvey Field on 18th March, we have less than 9 weeks to dust off our Neddies gear, stow the surfboard away and get back on the sideline to cheer on the boys.

We are still finalising the coaching line-up but the good news is Sam Rarasea will be our Head Coach & DOR this year, and in other good news I can confirm that Dylan Loversidge will be the Club Captain for 2023.  The club has recruited well in the off season so expect to see some new talent out on the field in the Neddies blue this season.  And I can also confirm we’ll have a Women’s team playing at Neddies this season.  I’m quite excited we’ll have the women once again at the club so I hope everyone will make a big effort to welcome the ladies to our club and support them over the season.

In the management and operation of the club just about everyone from last year has put their hand up to go around again, so this is great news.  In addition we have some well known faces wanting to get more involved in the running of the club so we are going from strength to strength both on and off the field.

Some dates to put into your diaries are as follows:

Pre-season training startsTues31-Jan
Bar OpeningThurs23-Feb
Working BeeSun05-Mar
1st Steak NightThurs09-Mar
Season Start – away v CottSat18-Mar
1st Home Game v WestsSat25-Mar

The Club had a magnificent year in 2022 with all 5 teams in finals and 3 going on to win their grand finals, however, I have a very good feeling that we’re going to do better this year.  Fielding 6 senior teams alone is an achievement, but with the strength of the playing group we will have do not be surprised to see all teams in finals again.  2023 I feel will be one for the record books, so I make sure you get down to the club as often as possible to be part of what will be a spectacular season of rugby.

Lets all pitch in together to make 2023 a spectacular year.  See you on the sidelines.  Be Loud.  Be Proud. GO NEDDIES!

Cheers

Peter Malcolm
